There are few things more satisfying than breaking up with your major cable company. You no longer have to install a satellite or pay through the nose for a massive cable package when you only care about a handful of channels. But while Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime might satisfy your need for on-demand movies and TV shows, you may still find yourself wanting live TV streaming, especially if there’s a series you want to watch in real time or there’s a big game on you just can’t miss.

Thankfully, there are plenty of live TV streaming options to choose from—too many in fact. In the last two years, the market has been flooded with new services, and figuring out which one is right for you can get complicated quickly. We’ve broken down all of the best options below to help the decision-making process easy for you.

The best live TV streaming options

Hulu with Live TV

Launched in 2017, Hulu with Live TV is exactly what it sounds like: a live TV streaming option from one of the leaders in on-demand entertainment. The best part about it is that it comes with free access to Hulu with Limited Commercials (a $7.99/month value), unlocking its deep library of movies TV showsanimedocumentariesscary movies, and must-see Hulu originals.

Cost: Hulu with Live TV has just one tier of pricing: $39.99 per month. Hulu also offers premium channel offerings like HBO ($14.99/month), Cinemax ($9.99/month), and Showtime ($8.99).

Channels: Hulu with Live TV offers over 50 channels, though the exact number is dependent upon on the number of local channels you’ll be able to pick up. You can expect to find popular favorites like Food Network, Nat Geo, TNT, and the Travel Channel, along with ESPN and each of the major news networks. Sadly, Hulu doesn’t have a deal with Viacom, so you won’t get Comedy Central, MTV, Spike, or Nickelodeon. AMC is also missing.

Devices: Hulu with Live TV works on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

Special features: Each subscription comes with 50 hours of DVR recording time, with no time limits on how long you can store material. If 50 hours isn’t enough, you can get 200 hours of Cloud DVR for $15 a month. Please note, you can’t fast forwards through ads on your DVR’d shows unless you subscribe to Hulu’s $4 a month ad-free service.

Why you’ll love it: Hulu is a brilliant middle ground, offering a world-class streaming service in addition to streaming live TV. However, while its design is beautiful, it can take some getting used to, especially given the way it curates channels based on what you watch. If you want to surf or find your DVR shows, you’ll need to dig through menus, which often feels like a hassle. Still, for the cost and what you get, Hulu with Live TV is an incredible deal. We just don’t recommend it if you find existing streaming services difficult to navigate.

PS Vue

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to own a PlayStation to use PS Vue. Launched in 2015, PS Vue is a standalone streaming service that offers some of the best bonus features around but at a premium price.

Cost: PS Vue comes in four different tiers of service: $39.99 for 45-plus channels, $44.99 for 60-plus channels, $59.99 for 90 channels, and $74.99 for those same 90 channels plus HBO and ShowtimeIn addition to the standard tiers, Vue offers several add-on channel packages, such as the Español Pack or the gamer-focused Machinima.

Channels: Each of PS Vue’s four tiers comes a myriad of channels, with popular channels like ESPN, SYFY, FX, Disney, and Food Network includes at all levels. The major difference between the base Access package ($39.99/month) and the Core package ($44.99/month) is the addition of sports channels like ESPN 3 and the NFL Network, while the Elite package ($59.99/month) adds BBC World News, Epix, and NBA TV. Finally, the $74.99 Ultra package gives you everything included in the Elite plan, with the addition of both HBO and Showtime. For even more sports action, the add-on Sports Pack tacks on NFL RedZone, MLB Network Strike Zone, ESPN Goal Line and a few other channels for $10/month. Like Hulu with Live TV, PS Vue doesn’t have access to Viacom channels anymore, though it once did and perhaps might again someday.

PS Vue channels available for $74.99/month Ultra package

Devices: PS Vue is available on PlayStation 3 and 4, Roku devices, Amazon Fire Stick and Fire TV devices, iOS, Android, web browsers, Chromecast, and Kodi.

Special features: Vue subscribers can store most shows on cloud DVR for up to 28 days after they were recorded, though some channels and sporting events are blocked from recording. While Vue’s DVR is limited, the service’s Catch-Up feature makes up for it. It allows you to go back to your channel listings up to three days and watch almost anything. Users who watch on a PS4 can watch up to three live channels at once on their screen, a particularly nice perk for Sony loyalists.

Why you’ll love it: If you long for the days of your massive cable package and don’t mind paying a little extra, PS Vue is a competitive position, but it’s the most expensive service available. That said, with PS Vue, up to five total streams are supported at once, so if you’re trying to find a package that you can split with roommates or family, it’s a great option.

Sling TV

Sling TV is arguably the most established and well-known live streaming TV service. It launched in 2015 and has earned a loyal following for its cheap plans and à la carte options.

Cost: Sling TV’s Orange package is just $20 a month, its Blue package costs $25 a month, while the combination Orange + Blue package run $40 a month. Yes, you have to pay extra for ABC ($5/month). HBO costs $14.99, the same it does most other places. While the start-up cost is low, when you factor in add-on channels, Sling TV quickly adds up.

Channels: Sling Orange comes with around 30 channels, while the Blue package comes with 45, depending on what local options are available to you. If you bundle the two packages together there is some overlap, so you’ll only end up with about 50 channels. If you’re looking for the cheapest access to ESPN, Sling TV is for you, with the $20 Orange package delivering all the sports you can handle. Each of the three packages includes CNN, Comedy Central, Cartoon Network, FX, AMC, NFL Network, and more. Sadly there’s no MTV.

Devices: Sling TV works on a remarkable number of devices, with the notable exception of Sony devices. Sling TV can be streamed via Amazon Fire devices, Apple TV, Android TV, iOS and Android devices, Chromecast, certain LG smart TVs, Roku, and Xbox One.

Special features: Sling offers DVR, but it costs an extra $5 a month for 50 hours of storage, but take note that many channels can’t be recorded. You can find a complete list of those channels here.

Why you’ll love it: Sling TV is a winner when it comes to price and interface. You can’t beat its $20 entry point, and once you’re logged in, navigating is a breeze. Unlike Hulu with Live TV and PS Vue, Sling TV has a menu system that’s easy to pick up from the get-go. Still, if you’re looking to add channels beyond the standard package, Sling TV’s monthly price can creep up.

DirecTV Now

Technically, you wouldn’t be breaking up with your cable company if you signed up for DirecTV Now, but its live TV streaming service has a lot to offer, especially if you already have an ATT Unlimited plan.

Cost: DirecTV Now offers four different channel packages: Live a Little ($35/month), Just Right ($50/month), Go Big ($60/month), and Gotta Have It (a whopping $70/month). DirecTV Now has the best price for HBO as an addon (just $5/month) and Starz ($8). Even better, ATT Unlimited data plan subscribers can knock $25 off the cost of service each month, making the starting price just $10 a month.

Channels: DirecTV Now gives viewers a lot for their money, starting with the $35 package. The base level package gives you 60-plus channels, which includes ESPN, CNN, Cartoon Network, SYFY, Food, Disney and more. Each tier beyond that adds an average of 20 channels, meaning you get 80-plus channels with Just Right, 100-plus channels with Go Big, and 120-plus channels in the Gotta Have It level. That’s more channels for your dollar than PS Vue offers, but it also might be more than you’ll need.

DirecTV Now Gotta Have It’s package is $70/month

Devices: DirecTV Now supports Apple TV, iOS and Android, Chromecast, Fire TV and tablet devices, Roku, and select smart TVs.

Special features: Similar to PS Vue, DirecTV Now subscribers can go back 72 hours in their channel listings to watch almost any program that has already aired. At the moment, DirecTV Now does not support cloud DVR, but the service has started beta testing the feature, meaning it will be available in the near future. The service is also zero-rated for ATT subscribers, even if they don’t have an unlimited plan. That means you can watch DirecTV Now content on your phone without it using up all of your data allotment.

Why you’ll love it: DirecTV Now feels just like a normal cable experience, down to its grid interface for surfing channels. Beyond that, it’s an incredible deal, giving you more for less than any other service. As soon as they fix its DVR situation, DirecTV Now will be the clear leader of the pack.

FuboTV

Originally launched as a way to watch sports online, FuboTV has expanded its offerings to compete with other live TV streaming, and it’s competitively priced.

Cost: FuboTV offers three levels of service. Fubo Premier, the standard package, costs $39.99/month (after a two-month introductory rate of $19.99/month). The service also offers two specialty streaming packages—Fubo Latino for $14.99 a month, and Fubo Portugues for $19.99 a month—but those packages come with deeply limited channel options.

Channels: If you want a mostly standard TV package, Fubo Premiere is the only way to go. Subscribers get 70-plus channels, depending on what local channels are available in your area. FuboTV is heavily weighted towards sports, particularly soccer. In fact, over 20 of the channels that come with the basic package are focused on sports, but it glaringly omits ESPN. Other standard programming channels like Bravo, FX, FXX, Nat Geo, USA, MSNBC, Fox News, SyFy, Food Network, Travel Channel, History, and other major cable options are included. Yet again, Viacom properties like MTV, Comedy Central, and VH1 are absent.

Fubo’s Latino and Portugues packages are expensive for what you get, but a useful option for the people they’re intended for. Fubo Latino offers 13 channels with your subscription, while Fubo Portugues offers just five. Fubo Latino includes Univision, Univision TDN, Fox Deportes, UniMas, and Nat Geo Mundo among its channels. Meanwhile, Fubo Portugues comes with Benfica TV, a Portuguese sports channel; RTP International, the international service for Portuguese public broadcasting; and the soccer-focused GOL TV.

FuboTV’s Premier channels ($39.99/month)

Devices: FuboTV is another service that leaves game console viewers out in the cold, but thankfully there are plenty of other options to choose from. Roku, Apple TV, iOS and Android, Amazon Fire devices, Android TV, and Chromecast all support FuboTV.

Special features: Fubo has recently upgraded its service, offering 30 hours of cloud DVR to all users, upgradable to 500 hours for an extra fee. In addition, the service has also introduced its own 72-hour lookback feature, letting you go back to your listings to watch shows that have already aired.

Why you’ll love it: FuboTV feels like a good service on the verge of becoming a great one. For a sports-focused company, the lack of ESPN is odd, but no one else in the game offers as many options for sports fans, and its’ Sports Plus package adds 15 additional channels that include NFL RedZone and five Pac 12 channels.

YouTube TV

Launched in April 2017, YouTube TV offers solid competition in the world of live TV streaming and boasts some of the best features around. You’ll get a free Google Chromecast just for signing up.

Cost: YouTube TV’s basic plan costs $35/month. Additional channels like Shudder and Sundance can be added for an extra $5 and $7 a month, respectively.

Channels: The service boasts just over 50 channels, ranging from CBS to ESPN, though there are some odd holes in the lineup. You get Fox and MSNBC, but not CNN, for example.Still, there are plenty of solid options, including AMC, FX, and SYFY, and Nat Geo. Showtime, Fox Soccer Plus, Shudder, and Sundance are all also available for an extra fee.

Devices: Other than the PlayStation ecosystem, YouTube TV works almost everywhere. It supports iOS, Android, Chromecast, Android TV, some Samsung and LG smart TVs, and Xbox One.

Special features: YouTube TV has some of the most generous special features in the live TV streaming world. While every service allows multiple users to watch at the same time on one account, YouTube takes it to the next level by offering six accounts per household. Each with their own personal login and unlimited DVR, meaning you’ll never accidentally record over your roommate or Mom ever again. YouTube is also one of the only services that lets you fast forward through ads on your DVR’d shows, which is always a bonus. YouTube TV also gives you access to YouTube Red Originals.

READ MORE:

Why you’ll love it: YouTube TV is odd. It’s more expensive than Sling TV and only $5 less than Hulu with Live TV, but its unlimited cloud DVR is hard to beat. The interface takes some getting used to, but the service’s live TV grid view is helpful for planning your viewing schedule. YouTube TV is best for houses with multiple viewers all sharing an account.

Japan’s Sony Corp announced on Wednesday it had brought back Aibo more than a decade since it last made the robotic dog. The report comes one day after Sony confirmed its resurgence by forecasting its highest-ever profit this financial year, sending its shares up to a nine-year high.

“AIBO” is an acronym for “Artificial Intelligence Robot” but is also similar to the word pal or partner in Japanese. Sony’s Aibo is billed as an “entertainment robot” that behaves like a real dog using artificial intelligence (AI) and is another homage to the past. It can learn and interact with its owner and surroundings. Its upgraded equipment also has new sensing and movement technologies allowing it to move more smoothly and naturally.

Sales are set to begin in Japan in January, though preorders are already being taken. Priced at 198,000 yen (1,500 euros, $1,700) anyone can take one home if they agree to the additional monthly fee for cloud-based services which will allow updates.

The tail wagging the dog

Sony pioneered such entertainment robots with its original Aibo in 1999. It sold about 150,000 of the models in Japan before ceasing production seven years later in 2006 when its core consumer electronics business struggled in price wars with emerging Asian rivals. In July 2014, the company stopped providing repairs and customer service for Aibo products altogether.

“It was a difficult decision to stop the project in 2006, but we continued development in AI and robotics,” Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai said at a news briefing.

Like many other tech firms, Sony sees artificial intelligence as a major force for future growth and a way to rebuild its reputation for innovation after years of restructuring.

The company also invested an undisclosed sum last year in Cogitai, an American AI startup focusing on technology that allows machines to learn continually and autonomously from interactions in the real world.

Additionally, the Japanese conglomerate has established a venture capital fund to build partnerships with researchers and startup companies in artificial intelligence and robotics.

On Monday, November 13, the San Francisco Small Business Commission unanimously decided to add El Rio to the city’s Legacy Business Registry. El Rio, Your Dive (to give its full name) is a neighborhood bar and LGBTQ+ space located at 3158 Mission Street in the Mission La Lengua neighborhood, a small, southern section of the Mission nestled between Noe Valley and Bernal Heights. The venue is well known for providing a safe and supportive space for a variety of community events and fundraising activities.

Karen Bardsley

In response to a study that showed the city’s small businesses were closing in record numbers, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors created the Legacy Business Registry in March of 2015. In November of that year, voters passed Local Measure J, which altered the definition of Legacy Businesses and created the Legacy Business Historic Preservation Fund. The goal of the Registry is to recognize the cultural importance of longstanding, community-serving businesses and to encourage their continued viability and success with educational and promotional assistance. The Fund supports these goals by offering yearly grants to Legacy Businesses and to property owners who extend ten-year or longer leases to those businesses.

To qualify for the Legacy Business Registry a business must be 30 years or older, have contributed to the history and culture of their neighborhood, and have been nominated by the Mayor or by a District Supervisor. Qualified businesses complete a lengthy application and must make their case for inclusion on the Registry at a public hearing before the Small Business Commission.

In an interview with me for the San Francisco Bay Times, Dawn Huston, El Rio’s Owner, said that her employees drove the application process and put in an incredible amount of work to make sure it was successful. She is very grateful to these employees, to District 9 Supervisor Hillary Ronen—who nominated the business—and to the numerous community members and groups who supported their application.

Huston sees the Legacy Business Registry as one small piece of a bigger picture, as the city adopts a variety of strategies to retain small businesses. The granting of Legacy Business status is a way of saying “well done” to El Rio and its staff, both for the success of the business and for the ways it has nourished the diverse community that it serves.

By accepting inclusion on the registry, El Rio commits to preserving its name and the physical features and traditions that define the business and its craft.  Both the Small Business Commission and the Historic Preservation Commission recommended that El Rio preserve key features, such as the large bar and shuffleboard inside the venue, the outdoor garden, community altar, large lemon tree and wooden deck in the back, and the large wooden Carmen Miranda and Marilyn Monroe paintings on the walls.

In addition, the Commission called for the safeguarding of the traditions that defined the bar as a community institution, including a business model that involves profit sharing with its employees and multiple ways of giving back to the community and neighborhood in which it is rooted.

El Rio has been a neighborhood staple since 1978, when Malcolm Thornley and Robert Nett opened it as a “leather Brazilian gay bar” designed to celebrate the owner’s passions for Brazil, motorcycles, and the leather and LGBTQ community through art, music and events. For example, they started the Salsa Sundays live music tea party, a bi-monthly institution that is still a beloved feature of El Rio’s calendar and one of the best places to see live salsa music in the city.

These interests provided the inspiration for the business, but from the beginning it was designed to be a mixed bar that was open to everyone who embraced the owner’s accepting and open spirit. As it says in El Rio’s Legacy Business application: “The heart of [El Rio’s] community includes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex communities of color and their friends.  We have always been a mixed space, and our community also encompasses a broad range of public school teachers, service workers, construction workers and trades people, musicians, dancers, artist, politicians and activists.”

To help support this diverse community, Thornley and Nett began to hold weekly benefit parties. When Huston took over ownership of the bar in 1997—after working with Thornley and Nett for a number of years—she used her background in the non-profit sector to greatly enhance this aspect of the business. Now the bar holds several benefits a week for a wide range of causes and community organizations.

Dozens of groups and individuals have been helped through these benefits including Larkin Street Youth Services, SF LGBT Center, Lyon Martin Health Services, Community United Against Violence, Causa Justa, San Francisco Dyke March, Give a Dog a Bone, Leonard Flynn Elementary School PTA, Michigan Women’s Music Fest, Rocket Dog and many, many more.

As well as hosting a variety of one-off benefit events, El Rio houses regular events that have become essential gathering places for certain Bay Area populations. For example, El Rio goes out of its way to stage events that create women-centered queer spaces.  One such event, “Mango,” a monthly dance party for queer women of color and their friends, celebrated its 21th anniversary this year. The long lines of people waiting to get into the event attest to its importance and popularity.

Changing economic realities have forced many women-centered queer businesses to close, and the traditionally LGBTQ neighborhoods are becoming less and less affordable. As a result, many of the Bay Area’s queer women have become social nomads. Using social media platforms to spread the word, they assemble at venues across the city, temporarily making bars and restaurants women-dominated, queer spaces.

It is a testament to the growing acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community that so many Bay Area businesses are welcoming to these momentary transformations. The constant shifting from place to place, however, can be disorienting. It is important that some of the traditional spaces and events remain. El Rio is one of those safe harbors, a place where queer women can, and do, come together on a regular basis.

Above all, El Rio is a neighborhood bar where one can relax, have an affordable drink and perhaps play some shuffleboard or (most recently) ping pong. Despite gentrification in the Mission and the displacement of many of its traditional residents, El Rio has committed to keeping its pricing accessible and to welcoming customers both old and new.

Furthermore, it will continue to be a community center, providing a safe place for people to enjoy themselves, celebrate, and do some good for a valuable cause. In so doing, “legacy” seems an appropriate moniker for the business, as the word captures both the idea of historical significance and the sense that something is being passed on to the future as a gift from that history.

In gaining Legacy Business status, El Rio, Your Dive, is looking both to the future and to the past, and to inviting Bay Area residents both old and new to join in on the fun. “Support local businesses,” Huston advises. “Make the world you want to live in with your actions and with your pocketbook.” If there is a cause that you want to support or a space that you want to create, she advises to “be an event producer.”

As the past 39 years of this Legacy Business’ history attest, it is easy enough to do, especially when you have El Rio on your side.

El Rio Feels Like Home

By DJ Olga T

El Rio has always felt like home since the very first time I was able to DJ at the opening of Mango, San Francisco’s longest running Tea Dance for women and their friends, 21 years ago. Just the fact that a bar owner gave a women’s party an actual Saturday was a huge deal. Also, it is refreshing that El Rio is an LGBTQ space that truly welcomes everybody—and I mean everybody, as El Rio is dog friendly as well—regardless of gender identity, sexual identity, race, age, and countless other labels that tend to separate us.

To know that you can always come to El Rio and not be judged or feel out of place for simply being whoever you may be is so incredibly valuable. In my many years of DJing all over the Bay Area and countless venues on the West Coast, I have never ever felt so supported and safe as I do here.

It’s rare to work with bar staff who not only care about proving excellent service to their patrons, but also who genuinely care about the community they serve. I have always noticed how the staff work as a team, are extremely diverse, and completely support and include communities of color, transgender and non-binary people and organizations. El Rio doesn’t shy away from fiercely combatting every and any “ism” every day, all the time, in order to make everyone feel safe, welcome and relaxed.

I’ve often worried about the day that I would hear that El Rio is no more simply because of the needless greed in the real estate market, which has displaced so many people and cherished businesses in the past few years. El Rio and countless other businesses in the city—whether they’re queer or not—are very important to the people and communities they serve.

There’s, of course, the historical significance, but even within that, I think the cultural richness that is nurtured and passed on through the decades—when people love and support a business that loves and supports them in the way they interact at the venue—is priceless. What I mean is that long-standing successful businesses like El Rio thrive because of events or activities that are not solely driven on profit, but rather are a rich combination of entertaining, political awareness, community building and even fundraising that is directly relevant to the people and community that support the business.

People who walk into El Rio, whether they’re heterosexual or not, immediately sense that El Rio is different and that difference feels good and it feels safe. That vibe, that mindset of the place being community driven and supported, is key and it exists because of the longevity of the space and the people who run and support it.

It’s a welcome relief to know that El Rio won’t be going anywhere soon. Like I said before, El Rio always feels like home to me and that is never a place you want to disappear or lose.

Following Equashield’s successful entry into the Spanish market with Palex Medical SA, the company will expand its current relationship with the distributor to bring its CSTD to Portugal, a market that has not yet adopted the specialized syringes for safe handling of hazardous drugs.

“When we introduced Equashield’s CSTD to the Spanish market, there was low awareness of the need for closed systems,” remarked Adela Turienzo, Marketing Manager for Palex Medical SA. “We have seen a significant shift over the past two years, as hospitals that were using other systems shifted to Equashield for its superior ease-of-use. Other hospitals that were not using any CSTD came to understand the necessity for these devices. We anticipate a similar outcome in Portugal as the market becomes educated on the hazards associated with exposure to antineoplastic agents.”

In a 2014 study conducted in two Portuguese hospitals, researchers analyzed 327 wipe samples to test for surface contamination of three drug surrogates. In 121 (37%) of the samples, it was possible to detect and quantify at least one of the three drug surrogates, and an additional 28 samples (8.6%) indicated that more than one drug surrogate contaminated the surface in both hospitals, primarily in administration areas. Researchers recommended that specific safety measures be taken to protect workers.

“There is a clear and present danger to hospitals and healthcare facilities not using closed systems for both compounding and administration of hazardous drugs. That’s why new regulations are coming into effect in the United States, such as USP 800, which mandates CSTD-use for hazardous drug administration,” explained Adi Shor, VP Sales ROW for Equashield. “We are confident in our strong partnership with Palex Medical. We want to work with them to help educate the Portuguese market, and improve the current safety practices of healthcare practitioners in pharmacy and nursing.”

Equashield is a leading provider of a full range of manual and automated solutions to hospitals for the compounding and administration of hazardous drugs.  Equashield’s product suite includes EQUASHIELD II, its flagship Closed System Transfer Device (CSTD), and EQUASHIELD® Pro, the first ever closed system drug compounding robot.  Equashield’s CSTD is clinically-proven to protect healthcare professionals from hazardous drug exposure.  The globally awarded EQUASHIELD® II covers more routes of exposure than alternative systems by preventing contamination of syringe plungers and drug residuals on connector surfaces, as well as exposure to drug vapors. Studies have shown Equashield’s CSTD to be faster to deploy and easier to use than competing systems, and the system has passed the proposed 2015 alcohol vapor containment protocol from NIOSH, confirming that it can contain the harshest vapors emissions. EQUASHIELD is in use by hundreds of hospitals and clinics around the world, and has been both cleared by the FDA under the ONB product code, and substantiated in FDA-cleared labeling as preventing microbial ingress for up to seven days.

Cutting the cord doesn’t mean you can’t watch live sports or primetime shows. While the market for video streaming services is saturated, fuboTV is one of the few that primarily caters to sports fans. This “sports-first, but not sports-only” service combines 82 channels of bona fide sports and other entertainment content, easy-to-use DVR capabilities, and reliable performance. The best part is that fuboTV covers practically every major sport and league at the college, national, and international level and is available on a wide range of platforms. It’s almost as expensive as a standard cable subscription and could benefit from a few extra capabilities, but otherwise, it’s a great experience for sports fans.

Sports and Entertainment Galore

fuboTV’s flagship subscription plan, fubo Premier, costs $19.99 per month for the first two months, but that quickly jumps up to $39.99 per month after the introductory period. This plan includes 82 total channels spread out across the sports and entertainment markets. To be clear, these are not watered-down versions of channels; they are the real thing. You can watch the channels live, record content to DVR storage, and binge through a ton of on-demand shows and movies.

View All 6 Photos in Gallery

The premier plan offers sports programming from NBC, CBS, FOX, NFL Network, NBA.TV, MSG, NESN, and several international channels. Basically, if there’s a game you want to watch, there’s a very good chance fuboTV carries it, regardless of the sport or league. One limitation is that you only get the games in your local market, which means they are subject to the same blackout restrictions as cable providers.

There’s also an impressive collection of entertainment channels. For example, fuboTV offers the Travel Channel, HGTV, and the Food Network for lifestyle content. You can get financial news from CNBC and FOX Business. FX, USA, SYFY, National Geographic, and the Weather Channel also make an appearance. In this sense, fuboTV is comparable to SlingTV and YouTube TV, although with a larger focus on sports.

One major omission, however, is ESPN. None of the subscription tiers or add-ons include ESPN programming, which could persuade some sports fans to look elsewhere. Also, the service doesn’t have much traditional news programming. I wish it carried content from at least some major news networks other than MSNBC; for me, this would broaden its appeal.

fubo Latino is the cheapest option, at $14.99 per month, and it includes 13 total channels, such as Univision, Unimax, two from beIN sports, GOL TV, and Nat Geo Mundo. fubo Português only features five channels, but two of them, RTP and Benfica TV, are native to the Portuguese market. It costs $19.99 per month.

You can supplement any of these base plans with add-on content, though fubo Premium gives you the most options. For example, you can combine the Premium plan with the Latino or Português packages respectively for $12.99 and $14.99 per month. There’s also an $8.99 Sports Plus option, which adds channels like the NFL Network’s Red Zone and Fox College Sports.

On a desktop, you can only access fuboTV via the web (it recommends using Google Chrome). The plus side of that is that you won’t run into any compatibility issues with Windows or macOS. fuboTV offers apps for Android, iOS, Apple TV, Roku, and Fire OS platforms. You can try the service with a free 7-day trial on any platform, but unfortunately, this option requires a credit card. I tested out fubo Premium on a Windows 10 PC and a Google Pixel running Android 8.0 Oreo.

Search and Select

Setting up a fuboTV account requires an email, a zip code, and a valid credit card. After you select your content plan, it takes you to the main page immediately. fuboTV gets points for not making users fuss with configuration settings, but, I dislike that I had to provide a credit card up front. Both Netflix and Hulu have the same requirement, but that doesn’t make it any less irritating.

fuboTV’s interface is clean and features a good amount of whitespace, which helps it organize and prioritize content. The dark blue and white color elements complement each other, but I would like to see the orange accent used more prominently. The one negative aspect of so much whitespace is that it’s annoying to browse fuboTV at night. Neither the desktop or mobile apps have a dark mode.

At the top, there’s a menu for Sports, Entertainment, Guide, and My DVR options. In the upper right-hand corner, you can access account settings and quickly toggle between English and Spanish language options. The starting page of both the sports and entertainment sections show a couple of featured events in a top-level slider that may be of interest, though it doesn’t seem to use any sort of personalized recommendation engine to come up with this content.

The sports tab (default) includes a secondary menu across the screen with different categories of sports. Below that, it lists all the significant upcoming events for that day. I like that under each main sports category, it shows a list of leagues across the top for further filtering. From here, you can jump into watching a live event or hit the DVR button to schedule a recording. Alternatively, you can navigate up to 72 hours backward in time from the day to view Lookback content (more on that later) or forwards to schedule a future recording.

The Entertainment section slightly breaks that design scheme. It does have a consistent secondary menu broken down into Series and Movies, but it organizes this content by those that are currently live (showing on cable) and those that recently aired. You can browse on-demand content by title and DVR upcoming shows and movies as you please.

The Guide takes heavy inspiration from a regular cable channel guide. You can scroll down through the channels to browse for something to watch and even record content to your DVR storage directly from this screen. From the calendar icon in the upper right, you can view the program listings up to seven days in advance. Strangely, you can’t navigate backward from the current day to view Lookback content from the guide. Occasionally, if a game runs longer than its allotted time, the guide indicates that it has already ended, but that’s more the fault of the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) listings.

The DVR screen features large thumbnails and organizes content into a simple list structure. You can use a search bar to search for a team, league, sport, or channel, but I wish I could search by date, as well. Also, the search doesn’t pick up on general sports names either, so instead of “baseball,” I had to search for “MLB.” This might not be too much of an issue if you don’t plan on recording a lot, but it could become an issue if you tend to horde content.

I like the video playing interface’s Closed Captioning option, as well as the 10-second skip and rewind buttons. The overlay is minimally intrusive and disappears quickly into the background, as it should. Live events and DVR content launch quickly and I rarely encounter lag or stutters while streaming. In fact, the whole interface is snappy. I had no trouble watching live NFL games, election results on MSNBC, or Chopped on The Food Network. Switching between channels is painless and streams launch quickly.

Record and Rewind

fuboTV has robust DVR functionality. The base account includes 30 hours of DVR storage, though you can increase that to 500 hours for an extra $9.99 per month. It records DVR content to the cloud, and it never gets deleted until you remove it manually. DVR recording also conveniently records the entirety of an event regardless of when you actually start recording. To record content, just click on the record button next to a show, and it automatically adds it to the My DVR menu.

I like that you can schedule DVR recordings well into the future. Unfortunately, there’s no option for watching DVR content online on a desktop (because it runs in a web browser), but this would be a great addition on mobile. Catching up with the game on a long flight or commute would surely appeal to many users. Or if a video takes up too much space to store or is simply inconvenient, an option to just listen to the game’s audio should be an option.

Another cool feature of fuboTV is Lookback. With Lookback, you can go back up to 72 hours in the past to view any sports or entertainment events that you missed. All you have to do is click on the calendar and navigate back to the original airdate. Unfortunately, you can’t record Lookback content to DVR storage. Further, although the vast majority of channels do support Lookback, some do not.

With fuboTV, the maximum streaming resolution is 1080p. It doesn’t support 4K or HDR content, but that limitation is down to the broadcast side of the equation. That’s understandable, but I wish it had a picture-in-picture mode for large-screen devices. When I watched the US Men’s Soccer team fail to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, for example, I would have liked to keep an eye on the some of the other matches in the qualifying group at the same time.

Watch Wherever You Are

Downloading and signing in to the mobile app is a pain-free experience, though you do have to give it permission to access your location (not uncommon for this sort of service). The app boasts a dark blue theme with orange and white accents, consistent with the desktop’s design, though again there’s no dark mode.

From the main view, you can scroll through a list of currently watchable events, which is somewhat overwhelming. Thankfully, it lets you filter or search for specific events. fuboTV shows a useful Jump to Today pop-up if you scroll away from the current date. On the bottom, you can tap to switch between the Sports section (the default), Entertainment, Guide, My DVR, and the Settings. Annoyingly, you can’t swipe to navigate between sections. From the settings, you can connect a Facebook or Google account, but that’s pretty much all you can do. There’s no way to control privacy preferences, manage your subscription, or even customize the way the app looks.

The mobile app offers all of the same functionality as the desktop app, so you can watch any live events, record content to your DVR storage, and even watch Lookback content. Performance is quick. It only took a few seconds before it launched a live stream at full quality. I used PCMag’s fast 60Mbps (download) Wi-Fi connection for testing on mobile, three times as fast as fuboTV’s recommended bandwidth of 20Mbps. I don’t recommend trying to stream over a cellular network, as to avoid ridiculous data-usage costs. Playing recorded DVR content worked just as quickly on mobile.

Go Team!

If you don’t have a cable subscription, you have many options when it comes to streaming content. However, this selection gets considerably smaller when it comes to streaming live sports. fuboTV offers an impressive 82-channel lineup of sports and entertainment content, multi-platform support, and dead-simple DVR functionality. It costs almost as much as a standard cable subscription and could still benefit from additional channels (especially ESPN), but it’s an otherwise excellent option for cord-cutters.

I RISULTATI DELLA 4a GIORNATA: SCIVOLA LA LUBE, VOLANO MODENA E PERUGIA

Scommessa ampiamente vinta, come testimoniato dalle prime uscite.

Additionally, fuboTV’s news lineup is missing some key players. It does include channels such as MSNBC, NBC, and CBSN, but CNN and PBS are notably missing. Also, I wish it carried international news channels such as BBC World News and Al Jazeera; for me, this would broaden its appeal.

fubo Latino is the cheapest option, at $14.99 per month, and it includes 13 total channels, such as Univision, Unimax, two from beIN sports, GOL TV, and Nat Geo Mundo. fubo Português only features five channels, but two of them, RTP and Benfica TV, are native to the Portuguese market.

A man very much, perhaps, like you”.

Judy Parker was introduced to ‪Bob Gaudio, a founding member of The Four Seasons, in 1973 at the Motown Studios in Los Angeles, while Bob was recording a ‪Marvin Gaye/Diana Ross duet. They dated for 8 years and were married on April 5,1981. In their 45 years together, they co-wrote a number of top 5 songs for ‪Frankie Valli  The Four Seasons. Some of those were prominently featured in the Tony, Grammy, and Olivier Award-winning musical, Jersey Boys, which became the 12th longest-running musical in Broadway history.

Born and raised in Michigan, Judy was one of seven children and the daughter of an Army Colonel; she also attended Michigan State University. Before her songwriting career began, Judy pursued a career in acting and modeling, including four years working in Rome, Italy. This young Michigander adopted the Italian language and culture quite quickly.

When she moved back to the U.S. in the late 1960’s, Judy secured featured roles in a number of television shows, including Batman, Bonanza, and My Three Sons. Additionally, her work in commercials included United Airlines, and a wide variety of hair products such as Breck, Halo, Prell and Lilt Home Permanent.

Of all her successes, a significant moment came for Judy when she co-wrote, with her husband, the title song for ‪Neil Diamond’s 1977 NBC TV special, “Glad You’re Here with Me Tonight.”

Judy was an incredibly entertaining storyteller with a wicked sense of humor. Songwriting, interior decorating, and family were her loves, along with the Sunday New York Times’ crossword puzzle. A woman of strong faith and philanthropic spirit, she gave generously to Samaritan’s Purse and Wounded Warrior Project. Judy and Bob made homes at the San Remo on Central Park West and Montauk, NY, however, they always maintained their primary residence in Nashville, TN.

Judy Parker Gaudio passed away at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, TN ‪at 4:55 pm on her birthday. It was, ironically, within 10 minutes of her time of birth. Now, is that style or what?

Judy was preceded in death by parents, Dorothy and Wilbur Small, sister Janice McKinley, and brother, Bill Small

She is survived by a cast of thousands.

It’s time to get ready for Taipei Pride 2017!

In the United States, the end of October brings Halloween. But in Taiwan, it’s the start of Pride. Taipei Pride gives the colorful and vibrant queer community a place to be seen. But as we all know, Pride’s not just about fun — it’s also a way to fight for change and equality.

This year’s Pride is sure to be an historic event. This is the first Pride celebration after Taiwan ruled that banning same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. A record number of people are expected this year, so Taipei’s city officials added a third parade route, the west route — and that’s where the gay social networking app Hornet is going to be.

Dance along with Hornet’s parade float

As the leading gay social media app, Hornet takes its responsibility to the LGBTQ community very seriously. For the first time, Hornet will have their own parade float this year. Hornet’s bringing along DJ Victor Cheng to spin records — and what would a party be without drag queens? Not a party we’d want to go to! So Hornet’s also bringing along Gina Tonique and Amily Givenchy… along with go-go boys, the host of Hornet’s Count Off talk show,Tree Chen, and Judy Chou, the Taiwanese queen of the gays!

As if all that entertainment weren’t enough, Hornet’s also giving out gym bags and fans — so just follow the big orange Hornet flag to find the swag.

The Taipei Pride 2017 theme is “Make love, not war — sex ed is the way to go”

The best way to fight for acceptance of all genders is with education. And since Taipei Pride has a huge platform, they’re going to use it to promote gender equality. This year’s theme is “Make love, not war — sex ed is the way to go.”

Taipei Pride 2017 is calling for a diverse approach to sex and gender education. By focusing on diversity, students will understand each other’s differences leading to a point where all kinds of consensual sexual expression is treated equally. They’re calling for an end to sex-shaming, opting instead for open discussions about lust, sexual orientation, kink and intimacy. By letting everyone find their own place in the world, we may finally end the stigma of being queer.

The Sex Ed Street Classroom

Taipei Pride’s calls for better sex education aren’t just lip-service. This year, they’ve started the Sex Ed Street Classroom. Educators will be there to help ask questions and teach people things they might not already know. The Sex Ed Street Classroom is a bit more fun than normal classes, though — and if you post a picture on the event page, just hashtag #SupportSexEd, and you’ll get a free gift!

Taipei Pride 2017 starts Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Hornet will be on the West Route, which starts at Ketagalan Boulevard.

Riccardo Filippelli (fitav.it)

O Lisboa Games Week (LGW) terminou no passado domingo.

“Ninguém sabe”, afirma Hannah Postel, investigadora do Center For Global Development, especialista em emigração.

Zhan Qiaoyong, presidente do grupo Huafeng, encaixa bem nesse perfil.

causa do dinheiro

Toda a gente tem em casa qualquer coisa “made in China”.

Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa attends a debate of a no-confidence motion in Lisbon, Portugal on Oct. 24, 2017. The Portuguese government survived a vote of no confidence over forest fires in parliament on Tuesday. (Xinhua/Zhang Liyun)

LISBON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) — The Portuguese government survived a vote of no confidence over forest fires in parliament on Tuesday.

The motion was brought about by the center-right Central Social Democratic-Popular Party (CDS-PP) following the death of more than 100 people in forest fires in four months.

For the motion to pass, the CDS-PP needed a parliamentary majority, meaning the support of at least 116 of 230 lawmakers. The government would then have fallen.

In the event, 122 lawmakers backed the Socialist Party government in a vote held after a 3-hour parliamentary debate.

Forest fires on Oct.15 raged through northern and central Portugal, killing 45 and devastating 500,000 hectares of land. In June, 64 people perished in a conflagration in the Pedrogao Grande area of central Portugal.

The CDS-PP claimed the motion was “an act of political indignation” brought on behalf of the Portuguese people. Introducing the bill, Assuncao Cristas, leader of the CDS-PP, said “the government had failed” due to “profound incompetence and mismanagement at the political and operational level.”

Prime Minister Antonio Costa responded by promising reform to forestry policy, but calling for consensus. “Deep reform can only come through institutional cooperation and the best of scientific knowledge,” he said.

Catarina Martins, leader of the Left Bloc (BE), which supported the government, called the motion “obscene” in reference to the fact that Cristas, as Minister for the Environment in the previous government, removed restrictions on eucalyptus planting. Eucalyptus trees are highly flammable and their prevalence was a major factor in both tragedies.

The Portuguese Social Democrat Party (PSD) voted with the CDS-PP. Luis Montenegro of the PSD said the government “deserved censure” for its handling of the crisis.
